A Scottish Country House Collection will consist of various artworks acquired over the last 50 years by an avid local art collector. This will be the first time any of the collection has been offered for sale and will be the only opportunity to view the collection before its dispersal to the four winds.
The Collection consists of a range of prints, watercolours and oil paintings from the 16th to the 21st century. Earlier European prints include engravings by Bassano, van Goyen and Piranesi, followed by Jollois, Lepère, Werner and their satirical English counterparts, Hogarth and Darley. Rare prints by Gauguin, Toulouse-Lautrec, Rouault and Picasso are also represented.
Reflecting the owner’s 15 years in America, many US artists are on show, some of whom rarely, if ever will have been exhibited in Scotland. This offers a rare opportunity to see and acquire work by Ralph Arnold, Leonard Baskin, Eleanor Coen, Patrick Kelly, Paul Landacre, Carol Summers and others.
Contemporary Scottish art is an important part of this collection, which contains work by Fionna Carlisle, Christie Cameron, Alexander Fraser RSA, Peter Howson, Alan Macdonald, Barbara Rae RA RSA and earlier artists including the Debatable Wilkie.
On the evening of September 20th the owner of the exhibition will be giving a talk about his experience of acquiring and enthusiasm for this eclectic and interesting collection. This event will be free but places are limited so please contact us to book.
